Adel Abdessemed: Situation and Practice
Texts by Jane Farver, Tom McDonough, and Pier Luigi Tazzi. Interview with Noam Chomsky by Adel Abdessemed
Published on the occasion of the artist’s 2008 solo exhibition at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s List Visual Arts Center in Cambridge, Adel Abdessemed: Situation and Practice featured a broad survey of Abdessemed’s work including his “street acts” and several works created specifically for the exhibition. One of the new works on view was Practice zero tolerance (retournée), which presents the remains of an automobile, cast in clay, that was vandalized during the 2005 riots in France. This fully illustrated exhibition catalogue includes essays by List Visual Arts Center director Jane Farver; architectural historian Tom McDonough; teacher and curator Pier Luigi Tazzi; and an interview by the artist with linguist and philosopher Noam Chomsky.
