Adel Abdessemed: Décor

Texts by Jean-Jacques Aillagon, Giovanni Careri, Éric de Chassey, Frédérique Goerig-Hergott, and François Pinault

Adel Abdessemed: Décor coincides with the special presentation of Abdessemed’s new work displayed next to German Renaissance painter Matthias Grünewald’s Crucifixion, part of his Isenheim Altarpiece from 1506-1515, at the Musée d’Unterlinden in Colmar, France. Abdessemed’s Décor (2011-2012) presents four life-size, full-figure sculptures made entirely from razor wire of the crucified Jesus and was modeled after Grünewald’s Crucifixion. This bilingual publication (English and French) is an in-depth study of Abdessemed’s monumental work, which is captured beautifully through over twenty detail shots and a foldout. Also included are texts by Jean-Jacques Aillagon, Giovanni Careri, Éric de Chassey, Frédérique Goerig-Hergott, and François Pinault.
